Male Nurse… What’s that?
In all the job searches people do when looking to either change career’s or simply start a new one… The role of ‘Male Nurse’ is probably one career that males would either not think of, or simply avoid like the plague, Why? Because the majority of the time these guys who would never venture into this area are lead by the misconception that male nurses are either gay or at least femine. All i can say to this, being a male nurse myself, is that you can not be further away from the truth than if you were mining for silver on one of Saturns moon’s.
As a male nurse I am always approached by visitors to the hospital with the greatest respect and I notice more and more that I am looked upon with a little bit of awe. Not wanted or intending to seem a little big headed here but I just need to explain that the role of the male nurse is not ‘out there’ in the minds of people reading lists of job opportunities. I personally think that we are a select few and in that vein are a little mysterious. Yes.. I think that more or less sums it up in a nutshell.
I enjoy my work because I do my daily tasks alongside my female workers as an equal. As a male nurse I can imput a little more because of the fact that I am one of a few. Certain situations can call for a male presence just the same as there are situations calling for a female presence. Interestingly enough, I am the only male nurse on the ward i work on with the exception of a male staff nurse. So… If the female nurse has enjoyed the role all of these years being looked upon as, shall we say, a sexy female. How about us male nurses being afforded the same huh? I mean.. we look good in our tunics, we do the same job!.
Strange really when you think of it… You never get to see or hear much information on ‘The Male Nurse’, every other job discription is out there….Truck Driver, Builder, Store manager, Construction Guy’s – Go on admit it.. I’m right yeah? So where is the Male Nurse? If we had more information made wider to the public, then maybe we’d have more guy’s doing this valuable and rewarding work. It’s great fella’s, really. If you’ve read this and by some chance you were wanting to change career’s…. Then make the change and at least look into it… You’ll never look back.
